Returned here to friendly smiles after being far away from the area for 15 years. Since 123 was established in 1998, it has clearly and consistently maintained a very high standard in the skill of their chefs and serving simply superb and delicious traditional/popular new world Chinese food. 123 isn't a restaurant and perhaps that is in its favour as a take out and away service where the emphasis is entirely on the food and the quality of the cooking. So, as far as 'atmosphere' goes, it gets a 5 star rating for not having one! Place your order and it is filled efficiently and on time. They deliver in Cobourg but it's also no wonder that people drive in from all around to pick up. This place is that good. I cannot ever recall a dish from 123 that was disappointing. If there is a weakness, (that might be considered a strength from a business perspective) it might be in the limitation of the menu where one might not find a dish or two that is commonly found elsewhere. Still their success is obviously in providing enough variety in key Cantonese, "Hong Kong", Szechuan and new world dishes to satisfy the majority of people. If you are used to ordering 'off menu' and asking for favours in combinations of things, you won't find that at 123. Perhaps if one was to get to know the chef personally after several visits and face to face that could be done but that's not a part of their formula. Of course, a necessity in Chinese cooking (and anything outside of a crock pot) is the freshness of ingredients and here is where 123 delivers. The veggies crunch, the wraps and breadings are crisp and the meats are tender. Nothing soggy as in so many other places. The crispy fried won ton are incredible. They're big and fresh and crunchy! The Lemon Chicken is presented in little thinly breaded chicken bites that can be lifted with your chopsticks and dipped into the delicious lemon sauce. We loved the spicy curried Singapore Rice Noodles, the Happy Family (a combination of meats and veggies) as well as the San Goo Guy Pan and Beef with Chinese Green. The honey garlic ribs were fresh and tender; not 'stringy' or tough. The fried rice is outstanding. This place and the people who make it happen deserve the custom they receive. What a pleasure. I went in on my lunch break to grab something quick to eat. I never expected such a variety of items on their menu! They have wraps on whole wheat, massive sandwiches on ciabatta buns which are under 10$ with a side! Never have I found such a nice place with great service. I had my wrap (seriously vegetarian) within 15 minutes. Was served nice and warm! Great choices for healthy lunches which are filling, and also treats for those who have a sweet tooth! Definitely recommend their cupcakes to anybody who loves sweets. Best shop in Peterborough! Lire plus

My husband & I celebrated the last day of the year 2012 at Chef Tommy's. It was our first timethere and we wanted to try something we have never ordered. So we ordered the lamb rack and we were not disappointed! The lamb was so so tender and the presentation was just delightful. The atmosphere was very cozy and the staff quite friendly and helpful. Our party of two ordered a 9oz steak and shrimp fajitas. Fajitas were fantastic but steak was quite tough though cooked to order - had much better quality steak, I am thinking..We both found the gravy to be very salty and lumpy, and the steamed veggies tasted odd. Server was very friendly, helpful, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Will probably be back but would not order the steak again. Lire plus

Being a Vegan for only 10 months I find it almost impossible to eat anywhere! We went to the Old Newcastle House and I was advised to try the veggie stir-fry. I have to admit I was hesitant, it was fabulous!!! I love to cook so therefore find it hard to find food I can say I love in most places!!! The company I was with also really enjoyed their food a lot! I have to say being OCD I always tend to look at the surroundings and this place is a little gem it is extremely clean ( which I love ) and beautifully decorated. We have visited many Italian reataurants throughout Ontario from Brockville to Niagara Falls, Oshawa to North Bay and Avanti's in Oshawa is number one. Not because we live here, because of the food, the service, the friendly atmosphere and the cleanliness of this establishment. Their Fusilli in Bianco is our favorite. We have dined there many times before Oshawa Generals Hockey games and Shows at the newly renovated Regent Theatre. And we are so proud to mention Avanti's everywhere we go. Located several blocks south of the main downtown street, this house converted over to a country-decor eatery is a popular breakfast spot for locals! It can be crowded on weekends. Breakfast is plentiful with home fries & fresh fruit - well cooked,not greasey! Delicious eggs benedict! It has great dinners here too, providing free live weekend entertainment later in the summer evenings. (Easy listening/Western/Rock& Roll two person bands seem the norm...well suited to the casual dining atmosphere in this licensed restaurant!) This is our favourite place to dine on our way to cottage country in the summer! It has a friendly efficient staff. The food is cooked by the owner - chef with several skilled helpers. Their pride in their culinary arts shows with healthy creatively cooked meals. Some of their dinners are so large that they offer 1/2 orders - this choice in their great Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding Dinner was plenty for me! With good seating for small or large groups, this is definately a family restaurant serving all age groups. They serve breakfast early and go to mid afternoon, then close for an hour or so then open for dinner. Limited free parking behind the house and on the local street. The only bad thing that I could say about the wings, they are a little on the small side and the hot are not all that hot. The service is alright (good at times, but alright). Went for a friends party, service was a little slow but it's to be expected when you're with a large group and the place is busy. The music was good, and not too loud so that you can't have a conversation, which I like while I'm out for dinner with friends. I had the Baja Quesadilla(3 friends did as well), the wife got a poutine. It was so good I went back for another one a week later. Good to see a traditional type place with a not so traditional menu. They have everything you'd expect them to (burgers, wings etc..) but they had some great choices that really made me appreciate the variety in their menu. I'm definitely going back again. I am confused by the "American" designation, since it is clearly German, right down to the delicious spaetzle and red cabbage. (You can only get the red cabbage if you ask, it isn't on the menu.) The schnitzels are very good, with ample portions. (We have never tried the homemade desserts -- too full!) The meat is tender and set off well by the fine breading. My husband has tried every schnitzel on the menu, and has a hard time declaring a favourite - he enjoys them all. The coffee is very good, the warm bun that comes prior to the meal is a nice treat. The service is usually very pleasant. A little more than a standard lunch in terms of cost, but worth it. Lire plus
